IMAGE 2025 — International Meeting for Applied Geoscience & Energy
Joint annual meeting of SEG, AAPG, SEPM, and the Geophysical Society of Houston. The single largest applied-geoscience gathering in North America.
Date
Location
George R. Brown Convention Center, Houston, USA

IMAGE 2025 brought the four major North American applied-geoscience societies — SEG, AAPG, SEPM, and the Geophysical Society of Houston — under one roof for four days at the George R. Brown.
Scale
- ~6,500 attendees across the four-day technical programme
- Three exhibition halls — operators, service companies, software vendors, academic institutions
- ~700 technical paper sessions, with strong tracks on AI/ML, energy transition, carbon storage, and digital subsurface
What EarthScan presented
M Quamer Nassim presented an extension of the EAN-DDA work showing transfer behaviour across THREE basins (F3 ↔ Penobscot ↔ Volve), with ablation studies on which CORAL hyperparameters generalise across basin pairs. Tannistha Maiti co-authored and attended the panel discussions on unsupervised methods.
Headline themes from the floor
- Foundation models for seismic interpretation are emerging. Several research groups (Stanford, NTNU, KAUST) presented pretraining approaches on multi-basin datasets.
- Reservoir digital twins dominated the operator-side track.
- Energy-transition geoscience got a full sub-track for the first time at IMAGE — geothermal, hydrogen storage, CO₂ sequestration site characterisation.
IMAGE is the can't-miss applied-geoscience event of the year. We'll be back in 2026 with deeper material.
