EAGE 2025 in Toulouse drew over 5,000 geoscientists, engineers and energy professionals across four days of technical sessions, exhibition floor demos, and side workshops. The 2025 edition leaned heavily into digitalisation and AI for subsurface — every keynote slot referenced machine learning at least in passing, and the technical sessions ran a dedicated stream on transformer-based geophysics.
What EarthScan brought
- A presentation on EAN-DDA's CORAL alignment results across the F3 → Penobscot transfer, with the IEEE TGRS 2022 paper as the anchoring reference
- A live demo of the VeerNet raster log digitisation pipeline at the exhibition booth
- Active participation in the EAGE AI Community workshop track — Tannistha Maiti chaired one of the panel sessions on unsupervised methods for seismic facies analysis
Key takeaways from the floor
- Foundation models for geoscience are now table-stakes conversation. Multiple operators discussed in-house fine-tuning pipelines on the Materials Project + their own log archives.
- Domain adaptation moved from "academic curiosity" to "production planning" — three operators we spoke to are evaluating CORAL or MMD variants for their own basin transfers.
- Equivariant GNNs for atomic-scale chemistry (MACE, NequIP, Allegro) drew strong booth traffic from the energy-transition crowd.
A solid 2025 outing. We'll be back in 2026 (Vienna).
