What was different in 2025
The 2025 programme had a noticeable shift: AI/ML sessions graduated from "novel" to "expected". Multiple basin-analysis papers used machine learning as a tool, not a centerpiece, the same way they'd use principal-components analysis or clustering twenty years ago.
What EarthScan watched closely
- Texas RRC archive digitisation efforts at multiple operators, directly adjacent to VeerNet's use case
- Carbon-storage site characterisation as a growth area: AAPG's geology depth makes it the right venue for this
- Fault-detection automation: several papers on the Volve open dataset benchmark
Why AAPG matters for EarthScan
The basin-analysis community is a slower-moving but stickier market than the geophysics community. When operators commit to an AI tool for petroleum-systems work, they commit for years. AAPG is where those longer-cycle relationships start.
